MapleStory: Fight for Freedom! pt5 (NOT based on the game)
Surprise, surprise, surprise….
Muahaha…I’m back in business! This is the last chapter for the story, so I will try to make up for the mistakes in my previous chapters! Also, there’s more angst in this chapter….
Let’s go!

‘It’s about the Master…’

Narrative P.O.V

“So…what about the ‘Master’?” Takao asked. Kaizer, Takao, Maxie and Talax were in Kaizer’s sleeping quarters, as Kaizer had requested them to come. “Yeah…about him….I know him.” Talax looked disbelievingly at Kaizer. “You know him…personally!?” Kaizer nodded his head. “Yeah…his real name is Boris….he was my friend, until something twisted his mind and he turned evil…”

“And that something is you.” All four heads turned around to see Cerveau leaning against the door, listening in on their conversation. “Cerveau….” Cerveau’s face wasn’t expressing anything funny, which was a bad sign. “Even if you don’t believe me, all I can tell you is that Boris turned evil because of you.” Talax, Takao and Maxie exchanged confused looks. “How do you know of this, Cerveau?” Cerveau’s eyes averted to Kaizer. “Simple. Ask your hero over there.”

All eyes shifted to Kaizer, who darkened visibly. “Go on…..Tell your friends whether I was telling the truth….Or dare you not?”
“Shut the hell up, Cerveau. I will never be ashamed of the one wrong thing I did….I stole his fame from him!” Kaizer started laughing manically, while the rest (excluding Cerveau) sat there, staring blankly at him. Talax was the first to recover. “You mean…he turned evil cause’ you took his fame from him!? Dude, that’s despicable!” Suddenly, he was sent flying across the room. Thankfully, Cerveau grabbed him before Talax hit the wall.

“He never did deserve it! He was only a lackey, a pawn!” (A/N: And you guys thought Kaizer was an angel….Pfft.) Talax scowled and got out of Cerveau’s grip. “Why you little…!” Cerveau stopped him before he could reach for his daggers. “Wait. Let me say a few more words…” Slowly, almost hesitantly, he walked up to Kaizer.

“Tell me, what was your main purpose when you fought the people termed as ‘criminals’?” Kaizer scowled. “To keep them from hurting other people.” Cerveau nodded his head and stood beside Kaizer. “But….tell me, who did you hurt when you stole Boris’s fame?” Kaizer’s evil aura began to lift as realization dawned on him. “No…That’s not true….I didn’t!” He drew his knees near him. “I became what I fight….This isn’t happening…”

Tears began to drip down his face as he shivered in fear of realization. Takao, Maxie and Talax scrambled to comfort him, only to be stopped by Cerveau. Cerveau kneeled down beside Kaizer, his other self. No words of comfort, not even an action of it was shown. No emotion could be seen in his eyes. Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed Kaizer by his shirt and held him close.

“Cerveau, what the heck do you think…” Cerveau looked over at the three onlookers, a cold look in his eyes. Talax stared at him, particularly his mouth. Though his lips weren’t moving, it was clear to Talax that he…was casting a spell! “Shit! Takao! Maxie! Move! He’s casting a spell!” All three turned to move, but suddenly, time stopped. No one moved, no one breathed. Only Cerveau and Kaizer remained impervious to it.

“Get up.” Kaizer glared at Cerveau, who returned the glare. “What makes you think I will?” His voice held strong, for one who had been crying a few minutes ago. “You were right….I am becoming what I hate, so why push it further?” Unexpectedly, Cerveau slammed him against the wall, with either hand at his side. “What makes you so certain of what you’re becoming?” He leant in even closer, until Kaizer could feel his breath on his face. “How do you know….that you’re not becoming what you fear?”

“What I fear? What, are you implying that I fear Boris?” Cerveau growled, a deep growl that emitted from his throat. “I’m not implying, I am stating. You do fear Boris. You feared that he’d take away your beloved, and he did. Now…” Cerveau leant towards Kaizer’s ear. “You are afraid of him coming for you again…Aren’t you?” He withdrew back and allowed Kaizer to sit up properly. “Think about this, and I’m not going back until you’ve realize your mistake.”

Time was still. Cerveau had made sure Kaizer had plenty of time to think it through. Minutes passed like hours, when finally, Kaizer cracked. Tears began to gush down again as he shuddered in memory of Boris. Cerveau sighed and pulled Kaizer towards him. “Last time, I used to envy you, but now, I can only feel pity for you…” He stroked Kaizer’s hair absent-mindedly. “Pity for the fact that you were once a strong and proud magician, yet now you are a helpless, pitiful….weeping fool…”

Kaizer cried silently as he listened to Cerveau. People would call it lamenting, but he called it comfort. In a Cerveau-like way, this was comfort, a kind that only Kaizer could understand. His hand rested against Cerveau’s chest. No heartbeat. Indeed, Cerveau was only part of his imagination now. It was only up to him to get through this.

“No one can help you….Only yourself. Crying won’t solve anything…” Cerveau sighed again, this time with a thoughtful air surrounding it. “I guess…..you’ve really changed…” He pulled Kaizer away to study him. By then, Kaizer had stopped crying and an occasional hiccup would resound from him. “Cerveau…*hic* I know you’re trying to get me through this…but I’ll need some time to do so….” Cerveau shook his head firmly; Kaizer could see tears forming in his eyes.

“You don’t have enough time! Time is about to start working again! You’ll ever get it, will you!?” He shook Kaizer slightly, tears falling swiftly. “You’ll need to be prepared for him soon! When you face him, you mustn’t show any fear or else, all you’ve been working for will come to an end!”

Tears started to fall even faster. “My time will end soon, and you’ll need to be ready by then. If you aren’t….you know of the consequences already.” Kaizer held up a hand to wipe away the tears, but Cerveau stopped him, lowering his raised hand. “When the time comes, I won’t be with you….I was never with you, to begin with. I only vanished from your sight when you asked me to go back ‘within’.” He took Kaizer’s hand into his own. “Think about it…..Time, start.”

Suddenly, Kaizer found himself alone. Talax, Maxie and Takao were backing away from where Cerveau used to be until they noticed it was only Kaizer. “Kaizer? What happened to Cerveau?” Kaizer held back a sob as he stood up. “Come on….it’s about time we report to the meeting room…” He stood in front of the door with his back facing Talax and the others. “Well? Let’s go!”

-In the Meeting Room-

“Hey Kaizer! Why are your eyes red?” Kaizer managed a smile at Slasher’s sudden question. “I…just didn’t get enough sleep. Other then that, I’m fine…” Slasher nodded his head. “Good. ‘Cause I’ll need every help I can get…” He turned to address the people gathered in the grand hall. “Fellow friends….I know you bear the remains of a fight, but please, give me a sign if you think you’re fit enough to fight again!”

Everyone raised their hands, regardless of how serious their injury actually was. Slasher nodded his head in satisfaction. “Great…Thank you for your support. Holy will tend to your wounds on her rounds. Potions are also going around. Take 60 of each and get seated at the left when you’re done.” He then turned around to look at Kaizer, Talax, Maxie and Takao. “You guys have enough potions?” They nodded their heads in unison. “Good….get seated at the left.”

“Alright….Now that everyone’s ready, we shall start the briefing….” (A/N: I am lazy to write out the briefing, so I’ll skip to the part where Slasher’s finished with it. You’ll find out what happens later...) “Ok, so everyone’s clear with the plan?” Everyone nodded their heads. “Great…’Freedom Fighters’, let’s go!!”

-Zipangu-

“Kaizer, for the fifteenth time, will you answer us!?” Kaizer spun around and cast a cold glare at Talax. “No, I don’t know where Cerveau is, now will you please shut up!?” Talax held up his hands in defense. “Alright! Alright! I was just asking!” Kaizer shook his head and walked towards the ‘Freedom Fighters’ in the front, not caring whether his friends were giving him odd looks.

Talax’s P.O.V

What is wrong with that guy!? All the while we had been asking ‘Where’s Cerveau’ and he took that long to reply?? Maxie and Takao are also curious to why he’s acting this way…..

Maxie tapped me on the shoulder. “Hey Talax, what’s wrong with Kaizer? If I remember properly, he was crying a few minutes ago and now he’s like this.” I shrugged and motioned for them to keep up with him. I have a feeling that Cerveau’s sudden disappearance has something to do with his attitude right now…

Soon, the sun began to set and we were approaching the ‘Master’s fortress, or headquarters. I would most probably call it my prison. Anyway, Slasher signaled for the four of us to find a way to get in while the others scout. As Takao and Maxie disappeared around the left corner, I went along with Kaizer to the right.

Along the corner, we skidded to a halt and pressed ourselves against the wall. Three soldiers came walking past us, and as it was night-time and our clothes were black, we went by un-noticed. Kaizer pointed upwards, meaning that we were to scale up and over the wall. Nodding as my reply, we effortlessly got over the wall and into the ‘Master’s fortress.

“Slasher, Kaizer here. We are in. I repeat, we are in. Over.” Jeez, I really hate it when he talks like that. It makes everything seem like a movie, when it’s actually a life-and-death situation. The reply soon followed: “Right. Scout for the ‘Master’s quarters. If he’s there, you know what to do. If not, kill the guards at the entrance and open the gate. Over.” Kaizer nodded his head, obviously satisfied with the orders. “C’mon, let’s go.”

We scooted towards the ‘Master’s quarters. His door was locked, but with one furious kick from Kaizer, it unhinged and flew back against the wall. Shows how angry he is right now….We entered the room, taking a tentative step at each time. We looked around, but couldn’t find the ‘Master’. Suddenly, pain struck me in my stomach and I went down on my knees. For a brief second, I caught a glimpse of Kaizer doing the same before blackening out…..

When I woke up, the first thing I realized was that my hands were numb. When I tried moving, they couldn’t budge an inch! Suddenly, a low chuckle came from a dark corner of the room. As my sight got used to the darkened surroundings, I growled out loud when I saw who it was: The ‘Master’.

Kaizer, who had probably woken up earlier then me, was tied up to the wall. Figures to why he’s chained against the wall; if his hands or legs were to be free, you can bet there would be chaos right now. He was glaring angrily at the ‘Master’. “What do you want, Boris?”

The ‘Master’ sniggered as he stepped into the light. “Come now….we are no longer partners…need you address me like that?” Kaizer snarled angrily before spitting at Boris. “Just you wait till I get out of these chains…I’ll do more damage to you!” Amazingly, Boris managed to keep his cool and wipe the spit off his face. “Pfft….I could do even more damage to you right now….internally, of course…” He pulled Kaizer’s chin closer, as if inspecting him. “Who would want to hurt a pretty boy like you?”

You can bet that remark made Kaizer furious beyond his normal temperament. He started shaking uncontrollably and he gritted his teeth tightly, as if venom would spit out once he released it. Boris smirked and turned around. “You can swear all you want. No one will be able to save you now…..Your petty rebellion group is safely within my clutches and Maxie and Takao are in their old homes….” I clenched my fists tightly, trying hard not to burst out in anger.

-Midnight-

Narrative P.O.V

“Damn these chains!” Kaizer glared darkly at Talax from his ‘comfy’ place on the wall. “At least you’re sitting down, right? Swearing isn’t the key to the chains, if you must know!” Talax scowled and sat back against the prison wall. “Well, if you think of something, let me know then!” Kaizer growled at Talax’s sarcasm and tried to kick against the wall repeatedly.

“I wouldn’t try that if I were you. The wall’s a great big slab of cement.” Kaizer’s eyes averted to the door, eyes narrowed. There stood Boris, jangling the keys noisily in his hand. “And the chains….Well, they speak for themselves…” Before walking away, he stood there with his back facing Kaizer and Talax. “Oh, and…my partner’s feeling kinda bored tonight…..Guards!” As if on cue, two guards appeared and strode into the cell and grabbed Kaizer. With miraculous strength, they broke Kaizer from his chains ( in the process suspiciously ripping his shirt apart too)but at the same time, chained his arms with two nylon strings which were glowing a brilliant blue- A sign that it had been coated with powerful magic.

Kaizer stared at the chains and back at Boris. “How did you gain so much magic?” Boris smirked. “My new partner, of course. You’ll meet him soon enough, though…” He threw his head back in laughter as he walked off, howling, “In bed, of course!”

(A/N: My mind’s getting a little screwed at the moment, so please bear in mind that things are not as it seems…Ahahahah…)

For the thousandth time, Kaizer tried guessing what infidel magic was used to coat the nylon strings. No matter how he tried to overcome the strength, the nylon string still stayed intact. “Darn it! I’ve tried every magic I know, even the Forbidden! Why won’t you break!?” No one was there to answer him, as Boris’s guards had left him in the mysterious ‘partner’s sleeping quarters. ‘Besides, who in their right mind would be as sick as Boris to want me for the night…?’

“I would.” Surprised, Kaizer nearly jumped out of his skin and the bed. He turned around to see a white-masked figure whose hair was nearly the same as his, which was a coincidence that could never happen for another era. “Who the heck are you?” The masked figure, as the mask was covering the whole of his face, showed no expression, but a familiar voice spoke. “You can just call me Kei…..or would you prefer ‘Boris’s partner’?”

Kaizer growled angrily at the mention of Boris’s name. “Why did you call for me?” Kei sat on the bed next to Kaizer. “To see how you’ve progressed, of course…..” Seeing the blank look on Kaizer’s face, Kei emphasized further by removing his mask. Kaizer’s eyes widened and he backed away from Kei, dropping of the bed in the end.

“C-c…..Cerveau!!??” Kei laughed and replaced his mask. “Used to be Cerveau….Now I work under the name ‘Kei’….I’m still on the good side, though...Argh!!” Kei went flying 3 feet from where he was as Kaizer tackled him in a painful hug. “OhmigoshIneverthoughtI’dseeyouagainwaitaminute, thendidn’tyouliewhenyousaidyouwouldn’tbewithmewhenthetimecomes?!” (A/N: Translation: Oh mi gosh I never thought I’d see you again. Wait a minute, then didn’t you lie when you said you wouldn’t be with me when the times comes?!)

Kei pried Kaizer off his body and sat back up against the wall. “I did say I wouldn’t be with you, but Time decided to let me join in this fight.” Kaizer raised an eyebrow. “You speak ‘Time’ as if it was a name.” Kei nodded his head. “Yeah…..You know, Time, the all-mighty mage that controls time??” Kaizer nodded thoughtfully. “Ohh….”

Suddenly, Kei tackled Kaizer to the ground and pulled him into a mind-searing kiss. Kaizer, though surprised, did not push him away as then he noticed a vague shadow at the window. He pushed Kei to go further, so as to make the act look real. After a few minutes, the shadow finally went away and Kei pulled away. “Gee…..was that close….” Kaizer smirked as he sat up to face Kei. “Yeah….but couldn’t you warn me first instead of just doing it??”

“Hn….there was no time….Quick, you need to tell me the mission’s briefing…..I’ve only got a few more hours, and I know that Slasher’s briefings can might as well be grand-mother stories….”Kaizer hid back a smile as he took up a seat on the bed next to Kei. “Nah….it’s not too much of a story, but it’s kinda long, as usual….”

-2 in the morning-

“Ok….so that was all?” Kaizer nodded his head as Kei went through the briefing in his head. “Ah…ok….Well, I think I should send you off…..or they’ll suspect that I’m doing you….” Kaizer growled as a slight color came to his cheeks. Kei smirked from behind his mask and pointed at Kaizer’s neck-line, which was covered with ‘love-bites’. “You know very well who was behind the door when I did that to you, so most probably he thinks I’m gonna do more to you….”

With that, he pulled Kaizer near and planted a chaste kiss on his lips. Then, with a snap of his fingers, two guards appeared and grabbed Kaizer roughly by his shoulders. Seeing this treatment, Kei nearly flared up as he stood up and commanded the guards to treat Kaizer kindly as he was still in his quarters. Knowing that there was a flaw in what he said, he accompanied the two guards and Kaizer to Kaizer’s cell.

-4 in the morning-

Kaizer pondered his conversation with Kei, while Talax kept poking Kaizer’s neck asking ‘Is this real?’ Being annoyed and confused at the same time did no good, so in the end Kaizer flopped down onto the floor in frustration.

Suddenly, there were voices outside the cell and the next thing they knew, the two guards outside fell to their knees. The prison door was crushed and flung to one side- all using force. Kaizer looked around expectantly for Slasher and the others, and true enough, Slasher came in and with one swipe, and the chains were cut free. Kaizer rubbed his wrist before standing up. “Thanks Slash…. we owe you one.” Slasher grinned and sheathed his sword. “Nah…just make this as the count I owe your two friends.”

Kaizer’s P.O.V

As he ran off, I saw littleHiff, Slash and b4nSinzz running behind him. They must have had been in the same cell….but who let them out? Suddenly, a war cry interrupted my thoughts as I turned around to see a page running at me. Before I had time to react, another magical force knocked him off his feet.

I turned around to see the blank white mask of Kei. He nodded as a greeting and ran off, presumably to free other ‘Freedom Fighters’. Turning back at Talax, I silently motioned for him to follow me.

We ran towards Boris’s quarters, facing little obstacles along the way. Most of Boris’s soldiers only cared about themselves and were easily defeated. When we got to Boris’s quarters, his room door was left wide open due to the lack of a door. As we peered in, we noticed that he was no where in sight.

“Well, well, well, who do we have here? The world famous mage CeRveAU2332, from Hifo’s puny group, no doubt!” I turned around to see the leader of the guild once known as ‘Fatal’. His evil grin was still there, no doubt, but his level had definitely changed. Talax stood in front of me, whispering, “I handle him….You find Boris.” I opened my mouth to protest, but he shot me a look that meant ‘do-as-I-say-or-else’. Nodding my head, I turned around and ran towards the grand hall where Boris would always be, leaving Talax to deal with the ‘Fatal’ leader.

Talax’s P.O.V

Well, that took care of Kaizer, now to deal with him…..He scowled when he saw Kaizer run off, leaving him with me. “Well, I guess the battle’s with you then….this is going to be easy….” Suddenly, a staff appeared in his hand and he struck several lightning beams at me. Those beams could blind you from a mile! Quickly, I covered my gaze and dodged using instinct. Knocking into the power supply, I ripped the door out and slashed the wires, causing a blackout dark enough for a perfect assassination…

I heard some footsteps and silently back-tracked. Suddenly, a holy beam was blindly cast into my way but I dodged it effortlessly. Cursing and swearing were heard as the rotten priest shouted out for me. Smirking slightly, I walked towards the voice. Thought it was dark, I managed to make out the outline of the priest’s clothes and sent some daggers in his way.

An anguished cry followed by a series of blind magic attacks came my way as the priest was hit by my daggers. I must say, although he is as blind as a bat in the dark, his luck must be quite good. Suddenly, pain shot up my arm as a magical hack came at it. I held in my scream as I noticed the priest coming.
Slipping past him quietly, I slashed at his arm with my dagger. He writhed in pain as he swerved to attack me. Luckily, I blocked it with my dagger, but now, my position was known. He chanted a spell and suddenly, a blast of light came straight in my face!

Staggering around blindly, I knocked against the wall and hit the ground. My eyesight was blinded! Grasping around for my dagger, I stood up and listened to the silence. Suddenly, I heard footsteps coming at me and attacked in that direction. A chilling scream filled the air and I felt something writhing at the point of my dagger. It went limp and slumped to the ground.

Heaving a sigh of relief, I grasped around for the wall and used it as a guide to move around, stopping occasionally to listen out for footsteps. As I moved along the path, something knocked into me and reflexively, I took out my dagger to attack. As my dagger whirled in mid-air, something caught it. “Hold it right there, Talax! It’s me! Maxie!”

I blindly looked in the direction where the voice came from. “M-maxie!? Where are you? Argh….I can’t see….” A hand rested on my shoulder, presumably Maxie’s. “Talax?? What’s wrong? Why aren’t you looking in the right direction?” I rested against the wall as I felt a pair of arms support me. “Cause I can’t see…the damn priest blinded me….” Another voice joined the conversation as someone shifted me to lean against their weight. “Well, aren’t we in a sticky situation, then…”

I smirked upon hearing the voice. “Takao….how were the enemies?” Even though I couldn’t see, I’m sure Takao had a goofy grin on his face. “They were easy, but the boss won’t be…Where’s Kaizer?” I frowned on hearing his name. “I sent him off to find Boris….” I felt another presence come forward. “Who’s the newcomer?”

A small chuckle eroded from the new ‘presence’. “Your senses as sharp as ever, huh, Talax?” I ‘looked’ in the direction of the voice. “Cerveau!?” I held my hand out and it came in contact with something smooth, like fabric. “Being blind’s no fun, huh…” I grinned and let my hand fall to my side. “Yeah…but enough small talk. We need to go after Kaizer!”

~*~

I slammed against the wall as Boris’s sword clashed with my staff. As I tried to get up, Boris kicked me again. Gritting my teeth, I transported to the other side of the hall and hurled a lightning attack at Boris. It hit him, but causing very little damage. In contrast to the many broken bones he had given me, of course….

Getting up was beginning to seem like a chore to me, as I staggered to my feet. My breathing was heavy and bruises were already forming. Boris, on the other hand, was the exact opposite of what I felt. He had a cruel smirk fully in place and his ‘Devil’s Entrance’ (A/N: No such sword….) was stained with blood, no prize for guessing whose…

Suddenly, pain shot through my whole body as unexpectedly, Boris ran up and slammed his sword hilt into my stomach. Flying back against the wall, I scrambled to my feet again and launched a series of magical attacks at him. Amazingly, he only got hit by a few, and it was like flicking toothpicks at an armor. Suddenly, my legs gave way and I slumped to the ground. Breathing getting heavier each second, I tried getting up, each effort in vain.

Boris smirked and walked up to me. Grabbing me by my hair, he raised me up till we were at eye-level. “What made you think you can win in the first place?” He cocked his head to one side, as if thinking of what he had said. “Or rather, what made you think that you could win?”

Suddenly, an ice beam struck Boris and someone grabbed me and pushed us to a darker side of the hall. A shade of red instantly told me who it was. “Talax?” He smiled and touched my face. “Good ta’ still…..see you, buddy……” I smiled but immediately, a thought came into my head. ‘Wait, touch my face!?’ I immediately waved my hand in front of his face, but his eyes never moved, nor did he ever blink. “Talax! What the heck happened to you!?” Talax shushed me immediately. “Ssh! You need to recover…don’t let our cover be blown.”

He placed his hand on the ground. “Hmm….Cerveau’s doing a good job of distracting Boris….” I raised an eyebrow. “Have you seen him lately?” Talax shook his head. “No….but I know he’s working for Boris under the name Kei.” He leant against the wall, eyes dully unmoving. “How long do you think you’ll need to recover?” I shrugged. “Dunno…an hour, I guess…..Talax…are you blind?”

Before Talax could answer, a body was flung in our direction. Reflexively, Talax caught it. My eyes widened when I noticed who it was. “K-kei!?” Kei’s white mask was shattered into two, revealing open wounds. His outfit was heavily torn too. Talax immediately placed his hand near Kei’s nose. “His breathing’s shallow….Shit….Take care of him, I’ll go fight him. Get some rest first.” With that, Talax ran off without any regret to fight Boris.

Narrative P.O.V

“Kei….” Kaizer put his hand on Kei’s shoulder. He tried to hold back his tears, but to no avail. Trying his best to prevent tears from flowing, he shut his eyes. Suddenly, Kaizer felt a light pressure on his hand. He opened his eyes and noticed that Kei had placed his hand on his. His eyes were opened and looking in Kaizer’s direction, his usual steely gaze replaced by a soft look. “Heh…looks like…..I wasn’t ….meant …..to stay…..till…the….battle ended…. How foolish was I…..to think….I could defeat…him?” A smiled formed on his lips for a second and his eyelids closed for a moment, but anyone could see Kei’s internal struggle to keep them open.

By now, Kaizer’s tears were flowing like an endless stream as he listened to Kei’s words. “Heh….Silly boy…why....why do you cry?” Kei removed Kaizer’s hand from his shoulder. “泣かないでください.....私たちが再び会います……” He gently squeezed Kaizer’s hand. “Don’t care….about justice…..you never said…you were a hero to abide….by rules….” Kaizer shook his head, tears falling freely. “Don’t say things like that…You’re not gonna die yet!” He gripped Kei’s hand tightly in both hands. “I need to help Talax in his battle…I will win...You just need to believe in me!”
“And I promise you….I’ll be there to see it…….”
(泣かないでください.....私たちが再び会います means ‘Don’t cry, we’ll meet again)

Kei’s P.O.V

I watched as Kaizer ran off to help Talax. A smile struggled to form on my lips as coldness began to descent on me. I tried to breathe in deeply, only to be overcome by a coughing fit. My eyes began to fail me as blackness shrouded my senses. Ah….so this is how death feels like…..

I began to cough again and finally, rolled over to one side. Somehow, I could still feel the blood trickling from my mouth…. Numbness is beginning to shroud, yet I struggle to keep my thoughts awake….. ‘Kaizer….I……I believe in you….my good brother….’

-Silence-

Narrative P.O.V

Out in the open, Kaizer and Talax were fighting Boris, who was more damaged then they had expected. Now, it was Boris’s turn to be the heavily damaged. His fight with Kei had left his sword half-broken and his shield cut into half by a lightning beam. Never-the-less, he could still put up a good fight with the duo.

Kaizer shot ice beams at Boris while Talax slashed his dagger at him. Boris could not keep up with the impacts and soon, he was flung onto the ground, unable to get up. Suddenly, Kaizer’s stare hardened on Boris, like Raddo’s case. In a flash, Boris was dead, the life strangled out of his body.

Talax pierced his dagger through Boris’s heart. On retrieving his dagger, he noticed Kaizer’s questioning look. “Ah…you know….just to make sure that he’s really dead…” Kaizer nodded his head slowly. “Right…..” Suddenly, a thought popped into his head. “Oh, shit! Kei!!”

“Kei!!” Kaizer’s eyes widened slightly when he noticed Maxie and Takao crowding in front of Kei. Maxie and Takao, upon seeing Talax and Kaizer, nodded their heads slightly and stood up, allowing Kaizer to pass. His (Kaizer) eyes grew big, then began to get watery as he dropped to his knees in front of Kei’s dead-cold body.

Kaizer held in his tears, trying hard not to cry on Kei’s wishes. All his efforts were wasted as he held Kei’s lifeless (not to mention broken) hand in his hands. “You promised…..Why? Why did you have to go??” Maxie and Takao looked away, trying their very hardest not to cry. Talax was impervious to his sight, yet he bowed his head slightly as an acknowledgement to his friend.

Slasher and the others soon came running up, only to stop on seeing the scene before them. By then, they all knew who Kei really was and started to break down. Some magicians bowed their head in respect; others closed their eyes to evoke the pressure of tears. b4ndiitz gathered Slash and b4nSinzz as they cried for their benefactor. littleHiff allowed her emotions to overcome and tears were stained on her face.
Slasher took it in his stride as he walked towards the body of his best friend. He overcame the need to cry as he rested his hand on Kaizer’s shoulder, comforting him silently. An unearthly silence followed by, until Slasher spoke up. “Fellow team mates, today is the day when we defeated Boris…..” His voice became cracked with emotions. “And….the day….that we lost a good friend….Let us all go home……and give Cerveau a…..” Slasher shut his eyes to prevent tears from flowing, yet continued with his speech. “….burial fit for a hero!”

In a few hours, they were all at the front of the ‘Freedom Fighters’ headquarters next to ReiKon’s grave. A short speech was given (courtesy of Slasher) and Kei, better known as CeRveAU2332, the Maple hero, was set on fire, just like how all Maple heroes go.

Spirits were soon lifted as travelers who heard the good news came round to celebrate. Fireworks were shot, and everyone tried to put the past behind them. Kaizer walked a little away from the party and leant back against a tree, admiring the beautiful full moon the night sky had bloomed.

A gust of wind blew, and he felt a new presence. He looked over to the side, and smiled at what he saw. Reina and Rei were together, beaming at him, while a new figure settled in-between them. It was Cerveau, just as he looked before death. Suddenly, Kaizer felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around, he was surprised to see Talax, Takao and Maxie. “C’mon, Kaizer, the party’s about to start!” Kaizer nodded and smiled slightly. “Ok, ok….I’m coming….”

They grinned happily and pulled him towards the party. From the corner of his eyes, Kaizer saw Reina and Rei waving goodbye at him. He turned back slightly to see only Cerveau standing, and suddenly vanishing. Another gust of wind blew, and this time, Kaizer heard a voice in his ears. ‘I wish you good luck for the future, brother….I can no longer talk to you…..Goodbye…’ Cerveau’s voice faded from his ears and Kaizer looked up to see a cloud cover the full moon. ‘Goodbye, Cerveau…’
‘Goodbye……forever….’
